Home Brewer of the Year 2003 Points
The first competition in the 2003 Brewer of the Year series was a joy to judge. Although we had fewer entries than expected for an Open Style competition, the overall quality was terrific. There was only one entry that had any significant faults. This beer, the Liquorice Stout brewed by the Birkmaier/Pushaw team, had been our Hogtown entry into the AHA Club-Only Competition, and it was good enough to be advanced to the 2nd round there. Unfortunately, this particular bottle had some problems.
First place went to 2002's BOTY winner Wayne Smith for his Hefeweizen. Second place went to Mark's Dunkleweizen, and third place was taken by Richard F's Tupelo Mead.
The next competition will be Eng & Scottish Strong Ales (Category 11) and Barley Wine & Imperial Stout (Category 12). Somehow, I suspect we'll see Wayne enter his Impy Stout & Barleywine. What are you going to enter?
