Octobeer Club Meeting Minutes
By Mark Tumarkin

The October meeting was held at Anne & Mark's house. We had a very good turnout, including some new guest, including Jeff Sirninger and Ryan & Jennifer Richards. Jeff became a new member at the meeting and Ryan seemed very interested. Ryan brought his stout to share - and it was very tasty. Anyhow, welcome to them all.

The November meeting will be held at Nancy & Craig's home. Remember that it will be held on Dec. 6th. The December (in January) meeting will be at Sara & Dave's, while the January (in January) will be at Sue & Wayne's. There will also be a party at Sue & Wayne's on Nov. 2nd. And don't forget Paige & Fred's re-nuptials at Kanapaha Gardens on Nov. 23rd. The style presentation/tasting at the Nov. meeting will be on Barleywines, Wee Heavies, and Imperial Stouts, and will be presented by Wilbeer. Keep in mind the nature of these beverages (and the quantity that will be present) and either have a designated driver or plan on spending the night. Craig says there's a hot tub and plenty of space.

We moved through the business portion of the meeting very quickly. The major topics of discussion were upcoming meeting locations (see above), last month's style competition winners (see elsewhere in newsletter), and the upcoming AHA Club Only Competition. Hogtown Brewers will be hosting this comp on Dec. 14th. We'll need help and participation from as many of you as possible. Dave is the Organizer, Mark is the Head Judge, and Jamie is the Head Steward - so talk to any of these about how you can help. We want this to be an introduction for the club to holding a competition. Sort of a dress rehearsal for the full on competition we plan on hosting in the fall of 2003.

Once the business portion was complete, we moved on to the Mead/Cider/Perry presentation/tasting led by Mark. Despite the fact that Gallagher failed to show up, and though we missed the Sledge-O-Matic Melomel demonstration, everyone had a great time sampling the many commercial meads (courtesy of Richard Furlong) and homebrewed meads & perry. We also sampled a very interesting English cider. The high alcohol content of these beverages got the best of one of our members. We should all keep this in mind for the high gravity brews we'll be sampling at the next meeting, and as always - drink responsibly.
