Bubblings From the Fermenter
By Dave Perez
Wow, another whirlwind month of flowing beer and some great activities. I want to use my bandwidth this month to talk about the people in this club who day in and day out dedicate themselves to providing us with some damn good beer and a hell of a lot of fun events.
Wayne just seems to do it all! He is the club Treasurer, better known as the Chancellor of the Exchequer and will hold that position for life or at least until someone figures out that the Club actually had $300,000 and that he finances his extravagant beer fancy with world beer tours. Wayne rarely misses any event and often is in the trenches doing much of the work. Wayne thanks for all you do. From brewing, to partying, to showing up year after year as the rest of us come and go, you make things look easy and fun. You are the Energizer Bunny of the Hogtown Brewers.
The Hogtown flotilla down the Santa Fe River ranks up there as one of my favorite events the Hogtown Brewers puts on. Once again, Erin put the trip together and didn't get to attend. We have got to add a fall excursion set to your schedule. Wayne lugged the Guinness and Bass kegs (with a little help from Greg & Richard) along for us to enjoy Black and Tan's whilst paddling down the river. Wayne's quite impressive handmade tap box for the Guinness keg kept turning heads the entire trip.
Of course we can't forget our new little brewer, Sean David Perrin. Hey kid where were you when we needed someone to grind the 120+ pounds of grain for this year's Very Big Brew. While he was napping and sucking on a bottle (hope it was Guinness!), Mark, Wayne, Will Luttge, Dr. Bob and I were busy grinding, burning up equipment, and playing with some quite large brewing equipment in Bob's lab. Thanks Bob for letting us play in your toy box. It is truly a fun place.
I have already discussed in prior newsletters, Mark's dedication to, and tireless efforts for this club. His excitement for all things beer (It would be inappropriate for me to make a non-brewing joke here, so I won't) keeps us informed and actively pursuing new and interesting activities. Thanks for your energy and motivation.
In an effort to better democratize the club and to showcase the talents of more of you, we will start appointing people to head up some committees. If you are interested in helping out, let me know and maybe you too can gain the fame and fortune that comes from being mentioned in this world renowned newsletter. OK, I'll shut up and drink the rest of my Two Hearted Ale!
