May Club Meeting Minutes
By Mark Tumarkin

Damn, after an alliterative start like that, I just have to try writing these minutes using as many words starting with M as possible. So here goesˇ.

Just kidding, Bradley would probably kill me if I did that. And since we finally got him to attend a meeting, we don't want to piss him off. This month's meeting was held in the wilds of Newberry, at the beautiful home of beautiful Julie and Dave Williams. Actually, the wilds of Newberry's frontier have gotten more civilized since last we visited. The Williams place now has cross fencing, so you don't have to get out opening and shutting the cattle gate as you drive through, and the worries of a Hogtown roundup are much reduced.

The main topic of the meeting was upcoming Hogtown events. The plan is to have lots of social events spread throughout the year. While it's impossible to schedule things so that everyone can attend all the events, hopefully you'll be able to work a bunch of them into your calendar. Planning ahead will make that more likely. So with that in mind, here is the (very rough & tentative in places) current plan:

June 22nd - Thai dinner at Sara & Ziggy's
July 4th - Party at Sue and Wayne's
August 10th - Road Trip/Pub Crawl 2002, Destination Tampa
Sept?? - Hogtown Navy canoe trip
Sept?? - Labor Day party at Julie & Dave's
Oct?? - Camping trip
Oct?? - Beer Dinner - each course pairing dishes made with beer with an appropriate beer to drink
Nov. 23rd - Fred & Paige's wedding

Richard P then gave the monthly style presentation/tasting on German wheat beers. It was very informative, and included a wide range of classic style examples. Everyone seemed to enjoy the presentation; with the possible exception of Dave (Lager Boy) Williams, who never met a wheat beer he liked. "They're all too cloudy and have too many off tastes; if a Bavarian brewed this they'd take him out and shoot him." Oh well, you can't please all of the people all of the time.

The June meeting will be held in the new side of Market St Pub. Ed has told us that he and his son will both attend; if we can get Bob there as well it will truly be a historic event. The schedule will be as usual - come at 6:30 for pot-luck dinner, meeting to start at 7:30, tasting/style presentation to begin as shortly there-after as possible. You'll be able to order food from Mkt St if you like; but with the quality of our pot-lucks recently, you probably won't want to. Craig will be doing the style presentation on IPA's and American Pale Ales. So, mark it on your calendar now as a not to be missed, mandatory must-make meeting (sorry Bradley, I just couldn't help it; alliterative and redundant, that's got to be worth some points).
