August Executive Committee Minutes
By Mark Tumarkin
There was a good turnout for this meeting with about 10 people attending. Hope to see more of you at future meetings too.
The August monthly meeting will be held at Craig & Nancy's. The September meeting doesn't have a home yet. The October meeting will be at Mark & Anne's.
We discussed a group purchase of cleaners and sanitizers. Star San and PBW are available in quantity direct from Five Star at a very significant savings. So the club will order a case of each. Email will be sent out about possible grain purchase as well.
It was decided to renew the club subscriptions to Brew Your Own and All About Beer magazines. However, we need to do more to encourage brewers to make use of the club library. We will be putting a list of books/maganzines and an index of articles online. You can then email or call the Libeerian (Sue) to bring your selections to the meetings.
The Canoe trip will be on October 12/13 but everyone needs to notify Erin asap as to the accommodations they need.
We discussed the possible use of St. John's Beverage as an alternate supplier for the Medieval Faire, but it was felt that they don't have a selection of beers that would replace our current choice. Really, it comes down to Guinness. They'd be fine on lagers and Eng ales.
We have spread the work out among more people, but we need to continue along this path. Anne volunteered to head a phone committee, but she'll need some assistance. Let her know if you're willing to help. We also need additional writers for the newsletter. George will start doing a regular column on yeast. You all should start thinking about writing occasional pieces - pub reviews, brewing story, etc. One thing you can do is write a report of your brewing - what you brewed, how it went, problems, etc. If you don't volunteer & choose your own topic, you may be volunteered & assigned a topic.
George will be doing another Doctored Beer session (or sessions). They will probably not be held at the monthly meeting. Instead, they will be held as a separate event, attend or not as you prefer. That way everyone who does attend will be there be choice, be interested, attentive, quiet···
The last several meetings of the year will be changed from the regular last Friday of the month to the first Friday of the following month. The October meeting will be held on Friday, November 1st since Richard F will be unable to attend the October date and has requested this kindness - we agreed since he is one of our premier meadmakers, has obtained several choice examples for the tasting, and doesn't want to miss it. The Nov meeting will be changed to Friday, December 6th to avoid Turkey Day conflicts. And we'll have Dec in Jan as has been our tradition to avoid Xmas conflicts. The December meeting will be held Friday, Jan 3rd. I guess we could continue this throughout the year, but then it would no longer be 'Special.'
