Bubblings From the Fermenter
By Mark Tumarkin

In last month's Bubblings, I mentioned that the HBD Community Red Cross Fund had passed the $1000 goal. The final total was $1220, to be matched dollar for dollar by Ford Motor Company. Donors can put up a plaque on the HBD memorial page if they desire. Take a look at the page at http://hbd.org/memorial.html . If you'd Hogtown Brewers to put up a plaque, and have a suggestion as to content, please let me know.

We had an unusually small turnout for the October meeting at Nancy and Craig Birkmaier's house. I know several members were out of town, visiting such exotic locales as Lost Wages, N'awlins, Asheville, and Hotlanta. Nonetheless, we had an enthusiastic group, and everyone present had a good time. Craig and Nancy have been doing a beautiful job on some fairly extensive remodeling (it's a great house for club meetings and we hope they'll invite us back).

Jamie and Robert were back from their nuptials in W Virginia and their honeymoon in Nova Scotia. The nine kegs of beer they brewed for the wedding was just barely enough, they were left with only a couple of partial kegs. What a party it must have been!

George had a cast on his arm. He tried to tell us it was a softball injury; but I saw skeptical looks on several faces. The looks changed though, when he announced that he and Karen are expecting a new little brewer in April. Congratulations, but this raises a question - just how many brewers can share one family membership?

The Brewer of the Year contest looks to be really close right to the last moment. There are six brewers still in position to win, and it will all be decided with the last contest. We'll have to see who has Brown Ales or Milds for the contest and how they place. So till then, keep those fermenters bubbling. /P>
