Bubblings From the Fermenter
By Mark Tumarkin
The Medieval Faire is behind us but in its wake we have a full treasury and the problem of deciding how to spend the money. Wish all our problems were this type, don't you? This was one of the main topics of discussion at the Feb. meeting, held at Ray and Selina's new home. I heard that the housewarming activities continued on in the hot tub after the meeting, until the wee, wee hours.
Anyhow, we'd like to come up with some creative suggestions on how best to use the money. Robert pointed out that we are chartered as an educational non-profit group and should spend the money with this in mind. We also discussed planning more events for the coming year. Erin was volunteered to head the Events Committee. The first event will be a Post-Faire Celebration Party at Sue and Wayne's - date to be set. We have kegs of Guinness, Bass, and Harp that need to be emptied in order to return them for the deposit. It will be a potluck, so plan on creating some culinary delight for the celebration. The next event will be another Hogtown Navy canoe trip on a Saturday in April - also to be decided soon. Please let Erin know if you have a good idea for a future event.
Another topic of discussion was forming another BJCP study group. We have a good number of potential judges who are interested in studying for the exam. We also have a group of judges who are more than willing to share their knowledge and experience to help others become judges. It's a lot of work, but it's also a lot of fun. I'd recommend it just for the fantastic beer education, whether or not you're planning on taking the exam. We'll be working out the details and planning the first meeting soon. Looks like we'll meet on Sunday afternoon once a month. Hope you'll join us. The next style presentation/tasting will be Lagers and Bocks, led by Dave Williams. The March meeting will be held at Sue and Wayne's house. Wayne promises to have all three of our Medieval Faire kegs on tap for the meeting. The style contest for March is Everything Belgian - Strong Belgian Ales (Category 18), Belgian/French (Category 19) Lambic& Belgian Sour (Category 20), so I hope you're keeping those fermenters bubbling.
