Hogtown Brewers Brewer of The Year 2001 Contest update

The results of the first style competition for the 2001 BOTY are in. It was a very, very close contest. There were three entries and they were all truly excellent. The rankings were just a few points apart on all of them. With five judges, this was pretty amazing. The results are:

First Place - Wayne Smith for his Mocha Porter
Second Place - Mark Tumarkin for his sparkling Black Currant mead
Third Place - Richard Furlong for his Spiced Millennium Ale

I had expected to get more entries since this was an Open competition, but I guess better quality than quantity. But I would like to see more entries in future competitions. So look at the schedule and plan your brewing to fit the upcoming styles. Try brewing styles that you don't normally brew, you might learn something new and at the very least you'll have a different style of beer to bring to the meetings as well as to enter in the competition (and possibly in some of the BJCP/AHA contests as well).
