2008 Hogtown Brew-Off Rules and Entry Information
The Hogtown Brew-Off is an AHA/BJCP Sanctioned Competition, covering all 26 BJCP styles as described in the 2008 BJCP Style Guidelines (we may collapse categories if necessary based on the actual number of entries). This competition is a qualifying event for the Florida Circuit - points accumulated at this event will be counted toward The Florida Brewer and Brew Club of the year. Again this year we are adding a special category (99) for The Wild Boar Keg Competition. For additional details about this category see the Keg Competition Rules below.
Competition Rules
Judging will be based on the new 2008 BJCP Style Guideline revisions. If you are not yet familiar with the changes in this revision, please read the guidelines for your entry styles, as all required information must be provided.
Most judges will be BJCP certified and any novice judges will be paired with experienced BJCP judges. Our goal is to provide the best feed back possible for your entry.
Judges are encouraged to enter the competition, but will not be allowed to judge any category in which they have entries.
The competition is open only to amateur brewers; commercial or BOP beers will be disqualified.
You may enter as many beers as you like, but only two entries per style subcategory for categories 1 -19. There is no entry limit on categories 20-26.
Each entry shall consist of three, preferably but not limited to, 11-12 oz. bottles; 7 oz. bottles are permissible for strong ale and mead categories. All commercial and homemade labels must be removed.
Bottles should be free of identifying marks, no raised letters. Bottle caps should be plain or have any markings inked or blacked out.
Bottle must have labels attached by rubber band, preferably around the bottle neck no glue or tape.
The entry window opens Monday April 28th and closes Friday May 9th. If you are shipping entries to our Cellarmaster, please arrange to have them arrive between April 28th and May 12th. Entries received after May 12 may be disqualified at the discretion of the Cellarmaster.
This competition will NOT accept entries using AHA paper entry forms and bottle lables; you must use the electronic entry system, which automatically updates the competition database.
All entries must be properly labeled using the bottle lables produced by the electronic entry system. If you forget to print out the labels when entering, you can print out lables with the information that you will receive via e-mail confirming your entires. Entries are $6 each; please send a check for entry fees made out to Hogtown Brewers with your entries.
We have established entry drop-off sites in Tampa and Orlando, and clubs may choose to establish their own collection sits as well. SAAZ will be collecting entries and bringing them to the orlando drop-off site saturday May 10th.

We plan to make the scoresheets available at the breakfast Sunday morning so that those attending can take the scoresheets back to their club members. All score sheets not picked up at the competition will be returned to the address indicated on the entry form.
The Wild Boar Keg Competition Rules
There is no entry fee for this category. Your beer, mead or cider is the entry fee.
In fairness to all participants, and to keep the number of kegs - and volume of beer consumed - reasonable, we are limiting entries to one keg per entrant. We only want your best!
The Wild Boar Keg Competition is a "popularity contest" judged by any Brew-Off participant in attendance; each participant votes for their top three entires. Fabulous prizes and a Hogtown Brew-Off Medal mounted to a tap handle will be awarded to the top three entries based on total points from all submitted score sheets; 3 points for a first place vote, 2 points for a second place vote, and 1 point for a third place vote.
The event will take place around the hotel pool Saturday afternoon during the BOS judging; those not staying at the hotel may use the hospitality suite to change into swimsuits. We hope to wrap-up the Best of Show rounds in time for these judges and stewards to cast their votes as well.
Lobbying for an entry is permitted and encouraged, however, no lobbying will be allowed in the serving area.
For the Wild Boar Keg Competition select Category 99 on the Electronic Entry Form. Enter the beer style of your keg in the underlying style section and indicate whether the entry will be in a pin-lock or ball-lock keg. Use the comments section to add any additional info you think will be helpful to the judges evaluating the entries. This information will be reproduced on the Beer Menu/Scoresheet that will be given to judges during the competition.
Keg-Only entries must be registered by May 9th, but can be delivered to Igor the Cellarmaster the day of competition. 2.5, 3, and 5 gallon ball lock or pin lock kegs may be used for the entry and should contain at least 2 gallons of beer, mead or cider. Please bring your own picnic tap and gas disconnect, just in case we are overwhelmed with entries. We will provide C02, cooling, etc. to serve the entries.
