Hogtown Brewers rack up Florida Circuit club points at BFBC
On the heels of the Coconut Cup, where Hogtown brought home two medals, our brewers brought home 8 medals - 2 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze - and a second place BOS from the Best Florida Beer Championship, held in Tampa on March 1st. In what may be a first, every Hogtown brewer who entered this year's BFBC took home a medal. These wins have the Hogtown Brewers sitting in an excellent position to place in the top three brew clubs this year, in the Florida Homberewer Circuit.
Jack Jordan took another gold medal with his semi-sweet mead - Straight Nyssa - which took the gold at the International Mead Festival. And this award winning mead took runner up BOS as well! Jack also took a silver medal at BFBC with his Burglar's Choice blueberry melomel. These wins have Jack sitting atop the Hogtown BOTY Standings. A silver medal for Rail Trail Pale Ale helped put Craig Birkmaier into second place in the BOTY standings. A new batch of this American Pale Ale, brewed with assistance from Jamie Schee, was used as the toast beer at the BFBC Brewer's Ball - Jamie brewed the BOS beer in the professional division of the 2007 Best Florida Beer Championships, giving him the honor of offering the traditional toast to open the Brewer's Ball.
Dawson Frasier took home his first gold medal in an AHA competition with his Sandhills Snotty Nose Red Irish Ale, which took a silver in the 2007 BFBC. And Dawson's award winning red made it into the top five in the BOS round, judged by a panel that included Dave Perez and Craig Birkmaier. Along with a bronze medal for an Oatmeal Stout, brewed with assistance from Travis Cossette, Dawson is now in third place in the BOTY standings.
Hogtown's 2007 Brewers Of The Year, Art Watson and Travis Cossette also brought home medals for Hogtown. Art was awarded bronze medals for his remake of the 2007 Big Brew Striking Gold Belgian Golden Strong Ale, and an imperialized version of his famous Chocolate Expresso Stout. Travis took a silver medal for his Totally Tubular Tupello semi sweet mead, brewed during last summer's Mead Day festivities.
